B is for ...

Bald Eagles!

Did you know that Utah is one of the top 10 winter stops for these guys? Yeah, they aren't permanent residents, but they sure love to visit when it gets very chilly here, starting in November until around March time.

A few of the best places to spot them is the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge (which I will talk about come alphabet R!), Willard Bay, a few areas by Henefer, Morgan, and let's not forget Flaming Gorge (yes, I will cover this under F, too)!

Have you ever spotted a bald eagle in your lifetime (and no, I don't mean at the zoo, either)?

  5. I've seen one in the wild once. But more often than not, the only time we get to see them is at the zoo!

  6. An hour south from where I live you can see them... I was driving down this unknown road back in February and found a family of eagles just right in front of me.... I always have my camera with me... except this day. I was beautiful to watch them play, live and survive.

Great start... to the challenge "B" is for Brilliant!

  13. I saw a bald eagle one time - my dad pointed it out to me and said it was not often that you see them. I was in my late teens and we were driving along the Mississippi river valley near Dubuque, IA. Magnificent creatures!

  17. I have only ever saw one in my whole life and it seemed like a majestic bird I actually thought it was a species of a buzzard until other ppl saw it too and said it was a bald eagle. :) It's nice that they were a protected species. Lovely posting

  19. Bald eagles are beautiful. When I was living up near Glacier National Park in Big Sky Country, I used to go to a spot in St. Mary's where there was a turn out that overlooked a canyon of sorts in the midst of pines. It was about 40 miles south of the Canadian border and beautiful. Just before winter I went up and sat in the small turnout to write (I liked to do that), and there were MANY bald eagles soaring in and out of the canyon area. There must have been at least 30 of them at any given time. Need I tell you that my pen remained in my hand, but not a word was written? :-)

  20. I live in the Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts and we have a good number of Bald Eagles. I see them quite frequently. Awesome! What we need are more stories like theirs to stop avoid future silent springs.(Thank you Rachel Carson)

  23. One of the beauties of living in BC is that we get to see so much large wildlife in the wild. There are many of these magnificent creatures nearby. Sometimes we are lucky enough to see them soaring over our house...then we go and count how many cats we have left :)
